Professional Engineer / Registered Architect (REMOTE)

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect with a minimum of 10-years of experience in design or construction, including or in addition to a minimum of 5-years of experience in forensic building investigations, to perform building related forensic investigations.  Our Senior Forensic Engineers are responsible for all phases of investigation, analysis, and damage evaluation, including but not limited to:

• Maintain, manage, and coordinate individual workload
• Perform damage investigations and failure analysis
• Prepare quality written technical reports detailing analysis and opinions
• Provide litigation support and expert witness testimony
• Develop rapport with clients to expand business opportunities

This position involves hands-on investigative field work, with follow-up analysis and report writing.  Applicants must be in good physical condition, and willing and able to climb ladders, climb pitched roofs, enter fire damaged and/or collapse areas, attics, crawl spaces, etc.  Local travel is required (usually day-trips; however, longer trips may be required).

Applicants must possess excellent communication skills; excellent writing and speaking skills are a must.  Litigation support is expected to be a focus of this position.  Some marketing and administrative tasks also will be required to support the Vice President.  Marketing tasks may include visits to clients, group presentations, and training seminars.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• B.S. or M.S. in Architectural, Civil, Structural or Construction Engineering, with P.E. licensure – must have, or be eligible for NCEES record
• (or) B.S. or M.S. in Architecture, with Architectural registration, and NCARB certification
• Minimum 10-years of experience in building design or construction, including or in addition to a minimum of 5-years of experience in forensic building investigations, litigation support and expert witness testimony.  This is not an entry level forensic position
• Specific experience is highly valuable but not required in one or more of the following areas:

• Construction/Construction Management, with Project Manager level experience of larger projects, including project scheduling
• Development of Contract Documents for damage/defect/repair projects
• Forensic investigations and testing utilizing ASTM E2128, “Standard Guide for Evaluating Water Leakage of Building Walls”
• IIBEC credentials: RRC, REWC, RBEC

• All candidates must have a thorough understanding of building systems, assemblies and components, with an emphasis on building enclosures and structural systems

• This position will handle assignments remote from the Youngstown, OH main office.  Candidates must be able to work independently, while following established RFE protocols
• Self-motivated, detail oriented and extremely organized

• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Assignments:

Our assignments involve determining cause, separating unrelated damage, evaluating extent of damage, preparing scopes for repair/replacement estimates by in-house estimators, and providing litigation support.

Types of assignments include collapse, collision to buildings/bridges, design & construction defects, earth movement, fire, building materials/systems/components defects, mine subsidence, vibration (blasting/construction/traffic) and weather (wind, hail, snow, lightning, flood).

Types of damaged property include single & multi-family housing, hotels, industrial/manufacturing, offices, churches, assembly, restaurants, retail, warehouses, parking structures, swimming pools, bridges and agricultural structures.
