Instrumentation Technician (Located in Mayfield, OH)

Calibrates, repairs, and maintains laboratory test instrumentation and equipment.  Installs and uses instrumentation for performing laboratory and field-testing.  Assists in training other personnel in the proper application and use of test equipment.

Essential Functions:

  1. Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs laboratory test and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, environmental chambers, tensile machines, vibration shakers, etc.
  2. Prepares and maintains calibration records for laboratory equipment.
  3. Calibrates laboratory test and measuring equipment such as tensile machines, calipers, micrometers, strain gages, transducers, etc.
  4. Conducts electric and/or electronic laboratory tests, including high voltage and current tests.
  5. Installs and instruments strain gages and other transducers and equipment, both in the laboratory and the field.
  6. Assists in the development and implementation of procedures for the calibration and the safe and proper use of test equipment.
  7. Assists in the establishment and maintenance of preventative maintenance procedures and records for all laboratory equipment.
  8. Constructs electronics devices working from schematic drawings and/or rough sketches.
  9. Prepares and maintains technical and performance specifications on all test instrumentation and equipment.
  10. Modifies older electronic equipment to reach performance levels comparable to newer models where applicable.
  11. Operates, maintains, calibrates, and repairs field vibration recording equipment. Collects and/or fabricates necessary hardware required for field vibration studies.  Collects recorders, batteries, tapes, etc. and prepare for shipment.
  12. Works in remote outdoor areas, often in high-lift trucks, to install, replace, or retrieve instrumentation such as vibration recorders.
  13. Instructs other personnel in the proper application and usage of laboratory test equipment.
  14. Performs and documents tests in the laboratory.
  15. Creates METTEAM/ METCAL calibration procedures for automating calibration of electronic equipment.
  16. Assists with maintenance of software, including updates and troubleshooting, on various lab computers


Non-Essential Functions:

  1. Assists in reduction of field vibration recorder data.
  2. Creates and maintains time plans on long-term projects.
  3. Performs other duties incidental to the departmental function.
  4. Assists in demonstrations for customers and visitors.

 Qualifications and Requirements

  • Education:
    • Associates degree (two year) in electronics or related field.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    • Not applicable to position.
  • Required Experience:
    • Two years experience repair/troubleshooting electronic equipment and instrumentation, with demonstrated skills in mechanical design and part fabrication.
  • Computer Skills:
    • Ability to use a computer and applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Travel Requirements:
    • Domestic travel via car or air to field test sites (5%).
  • Other Qualifications/Requirements or Skills:
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic equipment/systems to component level.
  • Ability to setup and conduct tests using appropriate electronic equipment.
  • Ability to plan and track projects both short and long term.
  • Ability to instruct others.
  • Ability to keep complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to carry up to 50lbs. of equipment for moderate distances at field testing sites.
  • Ability to write procedures, reports and other documentation.
  • Ability to setup and operate test and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to calibrate test and measuring equipment.
  • Ability to operate general machine shop equipment, such as a drill press, band saw, etc.

Salary Range: $40k-$50k
